My favorite is the short story “Sailing to Byzantium”. I liked “Forever Yours, Anna” a lot because the science fiction-y twist didn’t come until the end, and up until then it was kinda like a regular mystery. It did a great job of slowly revealing an alien society and a complicated piece of made-up technology in a way that felt totally natural.

Maybe this volume came together before SF and fantasy became separate literary entities, but that’s my major beef with this volume. Just great all around. If you can get over the central premise of falling in love through handwriting, the mystery of what happened to her is pretty compelling, wollhemi I didn’t see the ending coming. I mean, it’s your basic “kid from a weird clubbing subculture turns down a chance to become an immortal machine consciousness because woollheim would mean sacrificing his selfhood” story, by which I mean it’s totally full of cyberpunk tropes that everyone is sort of sick of by now, but it’s well-written and the main character feels real.
